Hi! I’m Minaa B., the founder of I’m So Mature and the writer of its flagship newsletter.
I’m also the author of Owning Our Struggles, host of the podcast Mindful With Minaa, and a licensed social worker with over a decade of experience as a therapist. In my career, I’ve worked with clients navigating depression, anxiety, and trauma. One thing I’ve learned in those sessions is the power of mirroring—seeing ourselves reflected in the world around us, whether through art, entertainment, music, or literature.
During my downtime outside of therapy sessions, I often watched shows like Insecure or listened to songs like “Kill Bill” by SZA—both of which referenced therapy in ways that made me feel seen. I noticed my clients experienced the same thing: they felt validated and connected when they saw pieces of their struggles reflected in the art they consumed.
I created I’m So Mature for those seeking healthy doses of escapism in the art, music, and shows they love. While there will always be someone shouting into the void of social media about how TV or entertainment is “bad for you,” I see things differently. What we watch can serve as a window into our emotions, our world, or someone else’s. It can paint a picture of our struggles, highlight our growth, and even teach us lessons about life.
